Sabrina's Love Story (Part-9)
Sabrina's Unforgettable Love Story
A New Feeling Behind Friendship
The studies of tenth
grade were gradually moving toward their final stage. For Md. Kabir Hossain,
those days were filled with both hope and uncertainty. Life had already taken
away many things from him, but he had never completely given up on his
education or his dreams.
Throughout his school
life, one person had remained especially close to him—his dear friend Kamal.
Kabir and Kamal spent
almost every day together. They studied in the same environment, shared their
thoughts, laughed about small things, and supported each other through the
difficulties of their teenage years. Their friendship had slowly become more
than an ordinary school friendship. Kamal was someone Kabir trusted deeply.
As their tenth-grade
studies were approaching completion, Kamal one day invited Kabir to visit his
home.
“Kabir, you should come
to our house one day. We can spend some time together away from school,” Kamal
said.
Kabir happily accepted
his friend’s invitation.
On the appointed day,
Kabir went to Kamal’s home. He was welcomed warmly, and the two friends were
delighted to have the opportunity to spend more time together.
Kamal’s home was located
beside the beautiful Karatoya River. The peaceful surroundings, the open sky,
the flowing river, and the familiar atmosphere of village life immediately made
Kabir feel relaxed.
After spending some time
at the house, the two friends decided to go to the river.
They went down to the
Karatoya and began bathing in the cool water. While swimming and sitting near
the riverbank, they talked about school, teachers, classmates, dreams, and the
future.
Sometimes they laughed
loudly over the smallest things. At other times, they simply walked beside the
river and talked quietly.
The entire day seemed to
pass without either of them noticing.
For Kabir, those moments
were precious. Life had not always been kind to him, and therefore simple
moments of happiness with a trusted friend meant a great deal.
As evening approached,
the two friends returned home.
After freshening up, they
sat together on the veranda and continued their conversation. The evening air
was calm, and the sounds of village life slowly filled the surroundings.
Then, unexpectedly,
someone appeared before them.
It was Kamal’s younger
sister, Sabrina.
She came to the veranda
carrying tea and some snacks for the two friends.
At that time, Sabrina was
studying in the eighth grade at a nearby high school. She was younger than
Kabir and Kamal, but there was something calm and composed about her presence.
Kabir looked at her for a
few moments.
It was the first time he
had seen her.
For reasons he could not
explain, that first sight left an unusual impression on his mind.
Kamal noticed the moment
and casually introduced them.
“Kabir, this is my
younger sister, Sabrina.”
Sabrina looked at Kabir
briefly.
“Assalamu Alaikum,” she
greeted him politely.
“Wa Alaikum Assalam,”
Kabir replied.
The introduction lasted
only a few seconds.
Nothing unusual had
happened.
There had been no long
conversation, no special words, and no extraordinary moment.
Yet something inside
Kabir had changed.
He could not understand
what it was.
After Sabrina left, Kabir
remained quiet for a while.
Kamal continued talking
about other things, completely unaware of what was happening inside his
friend’s mind.
Kabir listened, but his
thoughts had already wandered somewhere else.
He wondered why such an
ordinary introduction had affected him so deeply.
He had met many people
before. He had spoken with many girls at school and in the village. But this
brief meeting felt somehow different.
Still, Kabir said
nothing.
He did not even know what
he could possibly say.
He stayed at Kamal’s
house for two days.
Those two days were
filled with friendship, laughter, conversation, and the simple happiness of
spending time with someone he trusted. Kabir enjoyed every moment with Kamal
just as he had before.
But now, there was one
difference.
Whenever he happened to
see Sabrina, even for a brief moment, his attention was drawn toward her.
He tried not to think
about it.
He reminded himself that
she was Kamal’s younger sister.
Kamal was his closest
friend.
That thought alone was
enough to make Kabir cautious.
He did not want anything
to interfere with their friendship.
He did not want a feeling
he could not even understand to create a misunderstanding between two close
friends.
So he kept everything
inside.
After two days, it was
time for Kabir to return home.
He said goodbye to Kamal
and thanked him for the wonderful time they had spent together.
Then he began his journey
home.
But although his body had
left Kamal’s house, a part of his mind seemed to have remained behind.
That evening, after
returning home, Kabir opened his books and sat down to study.
His notebook was in front
of him.
His books were open.
The lessons were waiting
for him.
But his mind refused to
cooperate.
He read the same line
several times without understanding what he had read.
He closed the book for a
moment and looked away.
Once again, Sabrina’s
face appeared in his thoughts.
Kabir quietly asked
himself,
“Why do I keep thinking
about her?”
There was no answer.
He opened his book again.
A few minutes later, his
thoughts wandered back to that afternoon.
The Karatoya River.
The laughter with Kamal.
The peaceful evening.
The veranda.
And then—Sabrina.
He remembered the brief
moment when their eyes had met.
It had lasted only a few
seconds, yet the memory seemed strangely clear.
Kabir began to wonder
whether this was simply curiosity or something he had never experienced before.
He did not know.
He was too young to
understand the feeling completely, and he was too cautious to give it a name.
More importantly, he was
deeply conscious of his friendship with Kamal.
Sabrina was not simply a
girl he had met.
She was Kamal’s younger
sister.
That reality created a
boundary in Kabir’s mind.
He respected Kamal too
much to act carelessly.
One wrong word, one
unnecessary conversation, or one impulsive decision could potentially change
the friendship they had built over the years.
So Kabir decided to
remain silent.
He would tell no one.
Not even Kamal.
Perhaps, he thought, this
feeling would disappear with time.
Perhaps it was nothing
more than a passing thought caused by meeting someone new.
But the heart does not
always follow the plans we make for it.
That night, Kabir tried
to concentrate on his studies once again.
He looked at the pages of
his book, but his mind kept returning to the same memory.
He remembered the banks
of the Karatoya River and the wonderful day he had spent with his closest
friend.
And among all those
memories, one small moment stood apart—the moment when he first saw Sabrina.
Kabir still did not know
what this unfamiliar feeling meant.
He did not know whether
it would remain only a passing thought or become something much deeper.
He certainly did not know
that this brief meeting would eventually become one of the most important
turning points in his life.
For now, however, Kabir
kept the feeling locked quietly within his heart.
He returned to his books
and tried to continue his studies.
But somewhere deep inside
him, a new chapter had already begun.
And neither Kabir
nor Sabrina yet knew where that chapter would lead them.
