The Hard Reality of Relationships

Md. Kabir Hossain’s stepmother did not have any children of her own. Yet, she did not develop much affection or tenderness toward little Kabir. From the time he was a nursing infant, Kabir often did not receive the love and care that he should have received from her.

Instead, much of Kabir’s childhood passed through neglect, hardship, and various forms of emotional pain. The child who needed a mother’s love the most often felt alone, even while living in his own home.

Sometimes, life places people in such unexpected circumstances. When neglect comes from the very person from whom one expects love, it can have a deep impact on a child’s heart and mind.

That was exactly what happened in Kabir’s life.

However, with time, the situation changed. After Kabir’s father passed away, a new reality also entered his stepmother’s life. Until then, her husband had been with her. After his death, she herself became quite helpless.

There were hardly any close family members available to look after her. As the circumstances of the family changed, she realized that she now had to think about her own future in a new way.

Meanwhile, Kabir was trying to move forward with his own life. With the love and support of his elder brother and sister-in-law, his education and life had begun to become somewhat stable.

In this way, many days passed.

Eventually, Kabir’s stepmother decided to return to her father’s home. She went back to her own father’s house and began living there.

Thus, another chapter of a relationship in Kabir’s life came to an end. The relationship he had shared with his stepmother since childhood had been filled with hardship and distance, and with time, that relationship also moved far away from his life.

Kabir was then looking toward his future and trying to begin a new journey. The hardships he had experienced one after another had taught him many lessons—sometimes about the absence of loved ones, sometimes about neglect, and sometimes about receiving unexpected love and support from people he had not expected.

And those experiences gradually began to shape him into a stronger person.
